Description

Introduction One of the main motivations of translation throughout history is its connection with culture; especially when the differences in the level of cultural development determine the direction of translation. Europeans accessed and made use of the knowledge of the Greeks via translations, specifically in the fields of philosophy and medicine. Martin Luther's bible translation in the sixteenth century did not only contribute to the development of the German language, but also led to important changes in the Church and Christianity. In the second Reform Period in Turkey, Turkish literature gained a new genre, the novel, through translations from French literature. The technical improvements, scientific and social developments of the last century intensified this situation enormously. It became more and more important to know about other cultures not only in order to accelerate development, but also to provide a better intercultural communication. Hence, translation was and still is one of the driving sources of cultural development in which knowledge is transferred from one culture to another.
